About Pav

Pavlina Bentman

Pavlina Bentman

Founder of Pure Balance and teacher of Japanese medicine

Pav’s journey into Japanese medicine began with her background in dance and her experience of a spinal injury. Treatment with Dr. Chris Roworth at Chestnut Clinic helped her recover and regain confidence in her health and movement. It also gave her a lasting appreciation of how precious our mobility is—and inspired her to study Japanese medicine at his school.

Pav has run her own clinic since 2015. Her passion is helping people live healthier lives, drawing on both her training and her personal understanding of injury and recovery. She brings a thoughtful, individual approach to her work, recognising that each person’s needs and experiences are different.

Alongside her clinical practice, Pav began teaching and now runs Shinden School of Japanese Medicine in the Czech Republic. She also runs Kocho School of Japanese Medicine in the UK with Joe Donnelly, while continuing to assist with teaching and coordinate courses at Chestnut School of Japanese Medicine.

Outside the clinic and classroom, Pav enjoys reading and wild swimming.

Qualifications: Teacher Licence; diplomas in Japanese Anma massage, Japanese physical medicine and acupuncture.

Japanese medicine

Traditional Japanese medicine is a family of hands-on and herbal practices that grew out of classical Chinese medicine and took on its own character in Japan over many centuries.

Some of the best-known practices are acupuncture, which uses very fine needles; moxibustion, which uses the gentle warmth of burning mugwort; and anma, a style of massage whose name is written with the Japanese characters for “press” and “rub”. Practitioners in this tradition often place weight on touch and on listening to your history before any treatment begins.

Traditional Japanese medicine is a complementary approach. It does not replace advice from your GP or another healthcare professional.
